For over a decade, eHealth Initiative (eHI) has represented the multiple and diverse stakeholders who are improving healthcare through the use of Health Information Technology (HIT). eHealth Initiative's mission is to drive improvement in the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare through information and technology.

eHealth Initiative is the only national organization that represents all of the stakeholders in the healthcare industry and has a coalition of over 200 of the most prestigious and influential organizations amongst its members, including: clinicians, consumer and patient groups, employers and healthcare purchasers, health plans, health information technology (HIT) suppliers, hospitals and other providers, laboratories, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, pharmacies, public health agencies, quality improvement organizations, standards groups, and state, regional and community-based organizations.

In 2005, eHealth Initiative launched Connecting Communities, a rapidly growing coalition of leaders representing more than 250 state, regional and community-based initiatives focused on improving healthcare through health information exchange. For 8 years, eHI has surveyed and tracked the progress of these efforts, and is recognized as the preeminent authority on health information exchange.

The eHealth Initiative focuses its efforts on five topic areas:

  • HIT infrastructure for accountable care
  • Using technology to coordinate care
  • Data, research and analytics
  • Connecting communities through health information exchange (HIE)
  • Policy and advocacy on data and HIT issues related to meaningful use and health reform

Working with its membership, eHI advocates for the use of health IT and data that addresses stakeholder needs, particularly those of patients. eHI works with its membership to:

  • Contribute expertise, educate and advocate for the five topic areas
  • Influence policy related to information, health information technology (HIT) and health information exchange (HIE)
  • Convene multi-stakeholders to build consensus on policy in the five topic areas
  • Inform and mobilize our members on the state of the field through in depth reports, weekly newsletters, educational events and policy alerts.
