Letters - August 5, 2019 Letter to Former Partners

It has been seven months since my separation from SETMA. I wish to thank you for the retirement dinner you sponsored for Carolyn and me on November 29, 2018. For your interest, I have attached the following two links, others can be found at www.jameslhollymd.com: the first is my final note to SETMA’s staff from December, 2018 and the second is a link to the audio, video and text of the presentations at our Retirement Dinner.

Dr. Holly's Final Note to SETMA Staff

The Retirement Dinner - November 29th, 2018

Persionally, in the last seven months, I have exercised daily at 5 AM during the week and at 7 AM on the weekend. Daily, I complete 100 leg lifts with 210 pounds, 100 arm curls with 40 pounds, and speed walking 2-3 miles. I have recently added abdominal exercises.

I sincerely hope that you are each doing well. This note was motivated by my gratitude for you continuing the fulfillment of your commitments to me and my family.

My disappointment in the dismantling of the practice we built will not surprise you. I realize that the medical home accreditations and electronic tools are being allowed to expire. I have had nothing to say publicly about this and I will not.

I do have one request of you. I am not practicing medicine and will not. I do, however, maintain Adjunct Professor status at UT Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine. I will lecture on informatics, healthcare transformation, public policy issues and quality improvement methods and principles.

I request that you grant me possession of a functioning copy of SETMA’s data base without patient data. The limitations will be that I cannot use that data base in patient care; I cannot sell, or lease the data base to anyone; I cannot give a copy to another or transfer its possession to another. The result of your granting my request is that a copy of what we built together will continue to exist even after Steward no longer uses it.

All costs associated with this transfer will be borne by me. Please let me know if you will grant me this request.

I hope in time our relationships can be healed; your fulfillment of your obligations to me, your support of my son and your granting of this request make that a possibility. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely yours
