April 19, 2016

I enjoyed meeting with the American Medical Student Associations (AMSA) at Lamar University. When I was a student it was called the Student American Medical Associations (SAMA).

I told the students of my participation at the national level when at the SAMA annual meeting in Los Angeles, California in 1970, I was elected as the first Chairman of the newly formed Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) which is the accrediting body of undergraduate and graduate medical education in the USA, along with the AMA Medical Education Committee. (see https://www.aamc.org/members/osr/about/77856/history.html) Because I was the first Chairman, I served on the Executive Committee of the AAMC for two years, voted on the accreditation of my own medical school twice and was the first medical student to ever serve on an accreditation site visit as a voting member.   It was at Cornell Medical College in New York City.

During the presentation I answered their questions during which we addressed the following:

  1. SETMA’s Model of Care -- http://jameslhollymd.com/the-setma-way/setma-model-of-care-pc-mh-healthcare-innovation-the-future-of-healthcare
  2. The concept of Patient-Centered Medical Home and SETMA’s Accreditations -- http://jameslhollymd.com/accreditations
  3. How many tasks a primary care physician can be expected to perform at each visit -- http://jameslhollymd.com/your-life-your-health/process-analysis-and-how-many-tasks-can-you-get-a-provider-to-perform-at-each-encounter
  4. The four challenges I will give to the Northwestern State University Commence, May 6, 2016. http://jameslhollymd.com/your-life-your-health/northwestern-state-university-commencement-address-2016
  5. The Honor of Being a Physician -- http://jameslhollymd.com/Your-Life-Your-Health/the-honor-of-being-a-physician
  6. Information about SETMA from the Examiner’s Vital Signs publication -- http://jameslhollymd.com/in-the-news/vital-signs-examiner-publication

Thank you, Michael, for thinking of me for this opportunity.
