Letters - Response to Face Book Discussion about selecting a physician in Beaumont

In November a lengthy thread took place on face book concerning the selection of a physician in Beaumont. The following message was sent to one of the participants:

My name was mentioned in the responses to your query about physicians. One recommended seeing no one at SETMA. As the CEO and respecting the right of anyone to say anything and not being acquainted with your well-known husband, I offer a couple of comments:

1. SETMA is the only practice in Southeast Texas which has submitted itself to review by four accrediting agencies which examines practices for excellence: URAC, Joint Commission, NCQA and AAAHC. These accreditation are difficult to obtain. !8% of primary physicians have one and no others have four.

2. SETMA was chosen by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as one of thirty exemplar practices in America. After a four-day visit and in depth review, their response was, "How can we change every practice into a SETMA."

3. SETMA is involved in a research project with the American Academy of Family Practice. Their response in a public meeting in Kentucky two weeks ago: SETMA has set standards on one else can meet.

4. SETMA publicly reports on our website www.jameslhollymd.com on over 300 quality metrics by provider name. This means that we tell you how each provider performs on these metrics. NO OTHER practice in America reports on such by provider name. We are in our seventh year.

I could go on. I write a weekly health column in The Examiner. Ask Don Dodd about SETMA. Where ever you get your healthcare, I want you to have the best and there are many good doctors in Beaumont, but I don't want you to have a negative attitude about SETMA. We are not perfect but we strive for excellence.
