Letters - Response to Telephone Call with Lamar

August 20, 2019

Dear Juan

It may not surprise you for me to affirm that in my 76 years I have been involved in many contentious and controversial discussions.

However, I have never been engaged by a participant in one of these conundrums with as much grace, mutual respect and charm as I was by you this morning. Thank you

I look forward to further discussions about the university selling of alcohol. Unless the school reverses its decisio, we will never agree, but I am pleased to know that our mutual respect and common goals for the university you lead will never fade away.

Juan, our discussion went far afield. Thank you for listening to Dr Henrich’s and Carolyn’s addresses before we spoke.

As I said, for over 25 years, I have “lusted” after the Steinway Concert Grand piano. I could not be happier that Carolyn and I now own one which is on permanent loan (smile) to Lamar. In addition to being a magnificent musical instrument, it is physically a work of art.

Juan, you are a gentleman, a scholar and s credit to Lamar, to Beaumont and to all of us.

Thank you.

Larry Holly

Thank you Larry

I fear you hold me in higher esteem than I have earned.  Thank you for your gentle and thorough discussion, I look forward to our continued talks.

All my best,

Juan
