Larry,
Just off a plane from Sweden where I gave a talk I called "Don't Walk By" on how important it is for us to stop and reach out to patients and colleagues alike. Then I received this story from you, and it resonated exactly with the theme of my talk! Another reason why I just love you!
Thanks for all you do.

Subject: A UTHSCSA internal Medicine Residency graduate contacted to join SETMA -- a remarkable story
Today, SETMA's Internal CPA referred her double, first cousin as a possible physician to work with SETMA. I wrote him and he sent the following note:
"Howdy!
"Sir, I don't know if you remember me, but you actually took care of me when I was really young. I think it was right after Dr. Johnson retired there in Beaumont. Anyway, on my 5th birthday, I came in for my annual "bronchitis" appointment (LOL) and you gave me a gift that day. It was a small wood block that had a brass man balancing on it. I also told you that day that I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. You encouraged me and I am grateful for that.
"I would love to chat about prospects in Beaumont sometime in the near future. I will be transitioning out of the Military in the near future. I don't claim to the smartest Physician, but I am a hard worker and tend to inspire confidence in patients in a very short amount of time.
"I would love to start a dialogue with you and possibly join you in Beaumont in the future.

We talked this evening. I remember him from 33 years ago. I shook his hand and said, "You can be a physician!" His family moved to San Antonio and we lost touch.
Can you imagine how wonderful it will be if this five-year-old and this 37-year-old physician become 38 and 70 year-old-physician colleagues.
