I am sorry to be so long in responding to our brief introduction in San Antonio.  I am very interested in your work and offer the following introduction to Southeast Texas Medical Associates, LLP (SETMA, www.jameslhollymd.com).

As I mentioned we have had two groups from China visit SETMA.  In the course of this and three follow-up notes, I will:

  1. Summarize my presentation in San Antonio, including some addition thoughts, the slide deck and an audio recording of that presentation.
  2. Introduce you briefly to SETMA’s work.
  3. Share with you a presentation I made on the place of analytics in primary care which was delivered to the Massachusetts Medical Society.
  4. Connect you to our friends in China with links to some of our correspondence.

I look forward to a follow-up discussion.

SETMA’s Approach to MACRA and MIPS
Below is a brief description and link to the various formats of my key-note address to the Texas Regional HIMSS Conference, May 25-26, 2017.  MACRA and MIPS are major initiatives facing healthcare providers over the next 1-10 years.  In this presentation, I address:

  1. How the Four Standards of MIPS relate to SETMA’s Four Principles of the Future of Healthcare (see slides 11,  21, 22, 23)
  2. How MACRA and MIPS do not avoid the pitfalls defined by SETMA over the past 22 years (Slides 24-31)
  3. How SETMA’s 2014 performance and CMS’ 2015 Audit Prepared SETMA for the future (Slides 31-40)
  4. How SETMA prepared for MIPS and how we daily audit our performance reflecting that preparation (slides 7-12, 41-48)
  5. Addendum:  SETMA’s Tutorial for fulfilling MIPS and Daily Auditing Provider Point-of-Care Performance (slides 49-82)

Learning Objective

  1. To see the continuity between organizational focus and systems design before and after MACRA and MIPS
  2. To describe how Southeast Texas Medical Associates’ (SETMA) transformation between 1995 and 2005 prepared for MACRA and MIPS
  3. To learn how to fulfill MACRA and MIPS without interfering with the patient/provider relationships
  4. To demonstrate how to meet MIPS requirements with systems redesign
  5. SETMA’s complete tutorial for MIPS can be found in slides 48-83 which will not be covered in today’s presentation
